In 1953, the Government of India appointed a 'State Reorganization Commission' for the reorganization of the states in the country. According to the recommendation, states should be formed based on language, but 'Brihadmu Mumbai State 'should be bilingual.
However, this recommendation was enacted by the Gujarati and Marathi speaking people and the demand of different states of their own language.
